If using time wisely is a problem for you, then you probably don't have a
really good idea of where it all goes.
A good place to start then is to keep
track of how you spend your time by recording it in a daily planner.
Hang a monthly
calendar over your desk at home. Use it to need to complete the
assignments that you have been writing down in your weekly planner or
homework log. Enter the due dates of projects & quizzes & tests. Estimate
the amount of time that it will take you to prepare for each. Also, don't
forget to mark down any other activities that you be sure to leave time on
your calendar for fun.
Don't over-extend
yourself. It may no longer be
possible for you to play basketball, run track, take dance lessons after
school, and work a part time job. You may need to make a decision as to
which of these activities is most important to you, and eliminate some of
the others from your schedule. Remember that school is your number one
priority!
Learn to say "NO" once
your priorities are set.
Turning down something with friends does not mean that you will never get
invited to do something with them again.
Be sure to schedule in
time for study breaks. A good rule of thumb is to work forty minutes and
then take a fifteen minute break. Exercise breaks are great because they
provide your brain with the oxygen it needs to concentrate and retain the
information you are trying to learn.
Reward yourself when
you complete a task. Watch the game on TV, go out with friends, or take
a bubble bath.
Suggestions such as these don't lead to enslavement by the calendar. It may
sound awful but it actually leads to more freedom and accomplishment because
you are now in control.
