Introduction to Theater Arts/Drama

Course Description:

The class explores basic dramatic theory, history, and techniques. Students experience the stage through creative expression, mime, monologues, dialogues, and improvisation. Students will perform skits, dramatic games, and mock auditions.

Main Topics:

  • History of theatre from Greeks to Modern theatre.
  • Perform short scenes during class.

Main Learning Strategies:

  • Group discussions, skits, lecture, and monologues. theater games.

Assessments:

There is no set number of points at which we will arrive by the end of the semester. Grades can be determined dividing the number of points possible by number accumulated. For example if we had 245 points, and the student achieved 220, the student’s percentage would be 89.8%. The chart below will be the basis for determining student’s grades.

Point totals for assignments are at the discretion of the instructor and will be announced at the time the assignment is given.
