Honors Spanish III

Grades 11, 12

Course Description:

I.                    In Spanish III, students put into practice the skills learned in Spanish I and II.  They are encouraged to speak the language as much as possible.  Writing assignments further improve their writing skills.  Grammar is reinforced through the use of exercise books.  Culture is taught through the use of films, slides, books, cooking and guest speakers.

Students will cover the following material: review present and past tense, review preterite versus the imperfect, future, and conditional. The material will cover object pronouns in greater depth and students will learn the subjunctive mood.

II.                 Oral requirements

Students will be required to talk with a conversational partner for a minimum of 30 minutes outside of class.

III.               Grading procedure

A.     The grading scale will follow school procedure as it is explained in the handbook.

B.     A point system will be used in class. A point value will be given to each assignment, test, and project.

IV.              Tests and Evaluations

A.  Quizzes and daily work 15-35 points.

B.   Vocabulary quizzes                   30-50 points.

C.  Unit tests                                  125-200 points.

D.  Semester Final – comprehensive written exam…20% of final grade.

V.                 Class requirements

A.     Please bring your own textbook, workbook, pencil, and paper to class each day. No Borrowing!

B.     Each student is responsible for each day’s assignment. If you know ahead of time that you are going to be absent, get the assignment for me. If you can’t talk to me, you can call a friend who is in the class to get the assignment. You will be expected to take quizzes or tests immediately upon your return to class unless you were sick. In that case you have one extra day to make up the work. Homework assigned for the day you were absent will also be due upon your return unless you were excused due to illness.

C.     It is very important that you participate orally in Spanish as much as possible. Much of the oral work will be evaluated.

D.     Plagiarism is not allowed for homework and for some reports. Do not make use of the translator service on your computer. Your objective should be to learn to speak and write Spanish…not to just copy it.

E.      Tardiness to class will result in class detention. If you are delayed in a previous class, please bring a note signed by the other teacher.

F.      Please do not ask to leave the classroom for anything other than an emergency.

G.     Cheating will not be tolerated and will result in a zero.

VI.              Text: Abordo Textbook and workbook.

I hope that this year is a very good year for our class. I am willing to help all of you succeed in any way that I can. I will be available for extra help before school after 7:00 or after school. Buena suerte.
