Expectations:
Students are expected to:
·
Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings.
·
Have all supplies needed for each day ready when the
bell rings.
·
Contribute positively to the learning environment in the
classroom.
·
Ask questions and seek out help when confused.
·
Show respect toward yourself, other students, teachers and
all personal or school property.
Grading: Tests and Projects: 70% -
80% Quizzes: 20% - 30%
The grading scale may be modified slightly if
circumstances require it.
Tests and Quizzes:
·
Most units will have one or possibly two tests. Be sure
to get the help you need before the day of the test. All
tests will be announced ahead of time.
·
Quizzes on concepts or vocabulary will be given
periodically during each chapter. They will be significantly shorter
and more focused than tests. Quizzes may be either announced or
unannounced.
·
Quizzes or tests missed because of an unexcused absence
will not be made up.
·
Make up tests are generally not offered in PreCalculus.
If a make up is offered to the class, students who plan to take it must
first show me that they now understand the material. When a make up
test is taken, you keep the make up grade as your grade for the test.
Homework:
·
Students can expect homework most days. I will do my best
to keep assignments at a reasonable length, while still covering the
skills in the lesson.
·
Homework will be checked at the beginning of class.
·
Some homework assignments may be project-based.
·
I do not grade homework assignments on a regular basis.
·
It is assumed you will review the sections of the text
being covered in class. Assignments will be given from those sections
regularly. The purpose is to help reinforce the material covered in
class as it is expected to be completed for your benefit.
Extra Credit: Extra credit problems will be
included occasionally on tests, quizzes or homework assignments. I
do not create extra credit assignments at the end of the marking
period or semester to help students bring up their grades.
Late work: Students are responsible for
making up all missed work. If you are absent, it is your responsibility
to find out the missed assignments and turn them in on the new due
date. (You will have one extra day for each day missed.) If the
absence is pre-arranged, you are responsible to get the assignments
before the absence and turn them in the day you return.
Supplies:
Three Ring Binder
Loose Leaf Paper
Graphing Calculator
(TI-83, TI 84, and TI-86 most commonly used in class)
Pencil or pen (Pencils or
erasable pens are preferred because mistakes can be easily erased.)
At times, you may be required to bring other
supplies such as graph paper, poster boards, etc. but I will give you
sufficient warning when they are needed. Graphing calculators are used
extensively in some sections of this course. |
