Grades

Tests 50% Quizzes 20% Homework 30%

(The grading scale may be slightly modified if circumstances require it.  (No quizzes before progress reports, etc.)

Tests and Quizzes

  • Tests will be given at the end of each chapter.  Additional tests may be given when the course material dictates, but will be announced.

  • Quizzes on concepts or vocabulary will be given periodically during each chapter.  They will be significantly shorter and more focused than tests.  Quizzes may be announced or unannounced

  •  Quizzes missed because of an unexcused absence will not be made up.

 Homework

  • Students can expect homework most days.  I will do my best to keep assignments at a reasonable length, while still covering the skills in the lesson.

  • Some homework will be project  based.

  •  Homework problems (including tables of data and accompanying graphs) should be legible and spaced out for ease of reading or analysis.

  •  Homework will be collected and graded on a random basis with assignments worth 0, 3 or 5 points, depending on level of completion of the assignment.

Extra Credit

Extra credit assignments may be occasionally offered during the course of the class on tests, quizzes or with the homework assignment.  All students are encouraged to try them.  I will not create extra credit assignments to help students bring up grades at the last minute (the end of marking period or semester).

Make-up work

Students are responsible for making up all missed work.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out the missed assignments and turn them in on the new due date.  (You will have one extra day for each day missed.)  If the absence is pre-arranged, you are responsible to get the assignments before the absence and turn them in the day you return.

 Supplies

Three-ring binder or pocket folder, calculator, paper and pencil or pen.  (Pencils are preferred because mistakes can be easily erased.)  Graphing calculators will be used to some extent in this course.
