This Course is offered for the student who is interested in math but is
not prepared for more advanced course of Pre-Calculus. Included in the
course study are: angular and radian measures, trig functions and their
graphs, trig equations and identities, solving triangles, polar
co-ordinates, and vectors.
Introduction to trigonometric functions 3 ring binder for handouts
and returned homework
Application of trig functions Graphing calculator (I have a few I
can loan out)
Radian measure paper (graph paper needed in Chapter 2)
Graphs of trig functions pencil or pen
Trigonometric identities
Special applications with triangles
If time allows: law of sines, law of cosines, sum and difference
identities, half-angle and
double-angle identities.
Expectations:
Students are expected to:
Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings.
Have your textbook, Study Guide, paper, notebook, pencil/pen,
planner and any extra supplies for that day ready when the bell
rings.
Contribute positively to the learning environment in the classroom.
Ask questions and seek out help when confused.
Show respect toward yourself, other students, teachers and all
personal or school property.
Keep all 3-hole punched handouts in your 3-ring binder.
Be in compliance with the dress code at all times in class. (If in
doubt, check your planner!)
Grading: Tests and Projects: 50% Quizzes: 20% Homework: 30%
The grading scale may be modified slightly if circumstances require
it. (i.e. no quizzes before progress report)
Tests and Quizzes:
Most units will have two or possibly three tests. I may not be
available to help you on the morning of a test, so be sure to get
the help you need before the day of the test. All tests
will be announced ahead of time. Graphing calculator memory will
be cleared before all tests.
Quizzes on concepts or vocabulary will be given periodically
during each chapter. They will be significantly shorter and more
focused than tests. Quizzes may be either announced or
unannounced.
Quizzes or tests missed because of an unexcused absence can not
be made up.
Make up tests are generally not offered in Trigonometry. If a
make up is offered to the class, students who plan to take it must
first show me that they now understand the material. When a make up
test is taken, you keep the make up grade as your grade for the
test.
Homework:
Students can expect homework most days. I will do my best to keep
assignments at a reasonable length, while still covering the skills
in the lesson.
Homework problems should be legible and spaced out for ease of
reading.
Homework will be checked at the beginning of class, then
collected for credit at the end of class with assignments worth 0, 3
or 5 points, depending on level of completion. Any homework done in
class while the assignment is being reviewed will get a 0.
Some homework assignments may be project-based.
Extra Credit: Extra credit problems will be included occasionally
on tests, quizzes or homework assignments. All students are encouraged
to try them. I do not create extra credit assignments at the end
of the marking period or semester to help students bring up their
grades.
Late work: Students are responsible for making up all missed
work. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out the
missed assignments and turn them in on the new due date for full credit.
(You will have one extra day for each day missed.) If the absence is
pre-arranged, you are responsible to get the assignments before
the absence and turn them in the day you return.
